Guess what? Chicks rock! Seriously.
I am lucky enough to know a lot of awesome women. Which is awesome, because I am not awesome, but I can still hold out hope that someday their awesomeness will rub off on me. Because that? Would be awesome.
OK. I’ll stop now.
If you can’t tell, I’m fresh off a week filled with girl power.
First, there was book club. Here are five reasons that everyone should join a book club:
1) Book club ladies are smart, well-spoken, courageous, and beautiful. Always.
2) Book clubs make you think. (Did you know that not everyone sees the world like I do? Crazy!)
3) Book clubs are awesome therapy. (For instance, you may learn that your husband is normal. Just sayin’.)
4) You will always be well fed at book club. Literally. (Ze ladeez – zey can cook!)
5) You can pour out your innermost thoughts without fear of judgment.
After this month’s meeting, Pam found a quote that perfectly sums up our little group:
“Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with (your book club), having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away.” ~Dinah Craik
Yep. I really do lurrve book club.
Next, I was able to attend a movie night with some political movers and shakers. (All female.)
Again, girls know how to put on a good party:
(Check out those Gummy “Mama Grizzlies!”)
The fantabulous organizers:
Watch out for these ladies – they get things DONE!
We watched Fire From the Heartland: The Awakening of the Conservative Woman. It was an excellent movie. Slow to start out, but totally worth it. We also discussed all things political, and made plans for our eventual takeover of the world. (You only think I’m kidding…)
On Saturday, I went to a Musana Market, where I bought some of these…
…and some of these…
…along with a few other pretties, which were hand-made in Uganda (Uganda!) by Musana Jewelry. Please, pretty please, go visit their site. This is a company founded by some strong women who saw a need to help other strong women rise above their circumstances. The jewelry is beautiful, and the women who make it are even more beautiful. One of the company’s founders told me that as a result of their hard work, all of these women’s children are now attending school. How cool is that?
When we girls put our minds to something, we really can change the world.
It’s like I said – Chicks ROCK!
