December 16 – Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous December 16, 2011

Today, a few friends and I were invited to lunch….

….at the Governor’s Mansion!

When we arrived, we were told to go ahead and wander around…in the Governor’s Mansion…without a tour guide or guard.

That’s right – I made it past security.

We saw…The Grand Fireplace

andThe formal dining room

and

The family dining room

and

The Governor’s office.  (Sheesh – look at how clean it is.  It’s almost like he doesn’t actually do any work in there.)

and

The nativity set.  It’s awfully small.  I wonder if the Governor’s kids broke some of the pieces.

and my favorite room –

The parlor.  The First Lady selected “The Music of Christmas” as her decorating theme this year.  The parlor’s theme was “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.”  It.  Was.  Beautiful.

We also poked around the kitchen.  It had the cutest little food warmer built right into the radiator.

We saw the bathrooms, too.  No pictures.  But they were very nice.

Then it was time to go upstairs to dinner.

It was delicious.

As my friends and I sat chatting about history and movies, we were joined at our table by another group of very nice ladies.  We started to make small talk with them, and then one of the newcomers began talking about her holiday plans, which consisted of

 – I promise I am not making this up –

flying her extended family out to her home on a private island in the Bahamas for two weeks.

My friends and I were very quiet after that.

So cool! When my Aunt Olene was governor she held a family party at the mansion just so we all could see it up close and personal. Although no one there had a private island in the Bahamas…

Wow, I totally agree with the parlor. Even in pictures it is stunning! How awesome to have a good friend with “connections”!
